2019 was an exciting year for Soupstar Music.
Let’s look back on the music released from our favorite Soupstar Artists last year.
Here’s the wrap-up of 2019 Soupstar Music releases:
SANDWICH
Sandwich, the band with a trademark of energetic performances, released a single featuring Ice Seguerra titled, “Koloring Book” and a new remix album called “Space/Spase”. The album is a compilation of the band’s old hits given a techno makeover. They started working on the remix album after their 20th anniversary show in 2018.
IMAGO
A month after they re-signed under Universal Records, renowned Pinoy rock band, Imago, released “Pag-ibig na Walang Balik,” a song that brings back the classic OPM sound the band is known for, while also bringing a whole new flavor to the mix. After gaining an airplay and topping on different radio stations chart, Imago released another fresh new music titled “Partida” in collaboration with up and coming Rap artist and good friend BenteDos. The single is a fresh departure from their usual sound, and is inspired by the fresh energy of their new singer Kiara San Luis and BenteDos.
TEETH
After almost 15 years since their last release, notable band, Teeth worked with fellow musicians and friends Raymund Marasigan and Buddy Zabala (producers) and came out with their latest release “Baga at Usok”.
GRACENOTE
Female-fronted band Gracenote had made many surprises for their fans in 2019. They started the first quarter of the year with the release of their “&” album. The album is a compilation of the band’s collaboration with other artists, including “Bakit Ganyan Ka – Acoustic Version” ft. Chito Miranda of Parokya Ni Edgar, “Flynn Rider” ft. Tutti Caringal of 6cyclemind and many more.
On the third quarter of the year after they got signed in Universal Records, the band released the synth heavy “Baso at Bote” which surprised fans because for the first time band bassist Jazz Jorge was the one who sang the song while Eunice, the main vocalist, served as back up. The song was premiered in 50 venues simultaneously, ranked among their Top 5 most streamed songs in Spotify and got a DJ M.O.D remix. And then there’s the soaring “You Are Loved” – a song the band recorded for the mental health awareness campaign of the fashion brand Mossimo.
Gracenote, after announcing the release date of their 3rd studio album “Small World”, the band once again surprised fans by dropping their Christmas EP “Almost Christmas”. The EP consisted of 5 tracks including the single, “Christmas Break” – the unexpected Christmas song as it is exactly the opposite of the holiday cheers.
BANDA NI KLEGGY
Before the year ended, Banda Ni Kleggy just dropped two purely Filipino Christmas songs entitled, “Birthday ni BJ” (Remake from Protein Shake) and “Sa Paskong Darating”(Remake from Manibela) in time for the holidays.
“Birthday Ni BJ” is a Christmas song with a chill and cheerful vibe that aims to celebrate the birth of Baby Jesus, while “Sa Paskong Darating” is a song about longing to be with their special someone on Christmas Day.
BETTER DAYS
Great songs never really get old. This was proven by the fast-rising band, Better Days, when they released their rendition of APO Hiking Society’s classic OPM song, “Yakap Sa Dilim”, where their listeners got reintroduced to the old classic via the band’s new version.
KUREI
Filipino fashion photographer turned singer-songwriter, Kurei, is one of the newest artists of Soupstar Music. She first dipped her feet in music with the release of the acoustic version of her debut single “Paasa” on the first quarter of the year. Little did she expect that this would make her hit the #1 spot on Spotify Phillippines’ Viral 50!
After she got signed under Universal Records, Kurei released another LSS-worthy track titled, “Eto Na Naman”. A song which she described as a song that revolves around toxic relationships: the feeling of getting hurt, feeling okay for a time, and the unending cycle that people can experience while in them.
THE VOWELS THEY ORBIT
The Vowels They Orbit (TVTO), also a new artist of Soupstar Music, released two singles for an upcoming EP under Sony Music Philippines in 2019.
Their debut single, “Selos”, is about a typical situation in any relationship – one-sided jealousy. After reaching the number one spot in one of the most prominent FM radio charts in the Philippines and peaking at number two on Spotify Philippines Viral 50 with “Selos,” TVTO returns with a worthy follow-up to their hit single, a brand new song titled, “Kiliti”.
“Kiliti”showcased the band’s more relaxed and technically adept side. It’s a song about finding the perfect someone in an imperfect situation. It tackles a kind of love that is capable of surmounting the greatest odds under any circumstances.
‘PARA’ BY VIIXI
“Para” was released under Soupstar Music written by Darwin Hernandez. The song tells a story of broken hearts reminiscing on the moments they had with their special someone who left them for someone else. “Para” entered at #3 in iTunes Top 200 Tracks Philippines Alternative Chart.
