Coming from their previous single “Nyare” which is a track that can be considered by its fans and critics alike as representative of their music, Sandwich releases their latest single “Ibang Araw Na Lang” which showcases a different side of the 5-piece. Recorded and engineered by longtime collaborator, Shinji Tanaka at Kodama Studios and with guitarist Mong Alcaraz at his Alcatracks Studios, “Ibang Araw na Lang” finds the band showing more restraint. As evident by its sparse arrangement and more subdued performance, the band keeps it together with a rock-solid groove and minimal playing, offset by adding elements like horns, strings, and keys. Pushing themselves outside of their comfort zone, and in the process finding a creative vibe to allow its creation. But perhaps the biggest difference is the narrative context of “Ibang Araw Na Lang”. A somber song about loss, longing, and hope – themes the band themselves were dealing with coming out of the pandemic. A narrative that band feels everyone can relate to and maybe have even dealt with. And that maybe, just maybe helps to see the light at the end of the proverbial tunnel.
This 2023, as we move forward to “post-pandemic” times, Sandwich celebrates their 25th year anniversary and looks forward to what’s ahead.
“Ibang Araw Na Lang” is released under Polyeast records and is available in all streaming platforms.
