The University of the Philippines (UP) celebrates the remarkable contributions in Filipino music and culture of the legendary OPM rock band Eraserheads with the 2024 Gawad Oblation Award today, August 20, at the Executive House on the UP Diliman campus. This event is especially meaningful to the band as it recognizes how their alma mater has shaped them in their journey since their formation in 1989. The Gawad Oblation, named after Guillermo E. Tolentino’s famous sculpture, is one of UP’s most prestigious honors, given to those who have significantly enhanced the university’s reputation.
The event was graced by the UP President Angelo Jimenez and other executives, Dr. Robin Rivera – the band’s professor who served as their first producer and mentor, and the band’s family.
The program also included a performance of Eraserheads songs by the UP Symphony Orchestra String Quartet.
Along with Ely Buendia and Marcus Adoro, congratulations to Raymund Marasigan and Buddy Zabala! You truly are an inspiration!
